"The construction of first-class universities and first-class disciplines" is an inevitable choice and an important measure to build a powerful country in higher education and realize the general task of "socialist modernization and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" put forward by the 19th National Congress of the CPC. In 2017, general secretary Xi Jinping put forward a sincere hope for the school to "take root in China's universities and build world-class universities and first-class disciplines" in the 80th anniversary congratulatory letter of Renmin University of China. In the same year, Renmin University of China's journalism and communication discipline was honored to be selected as the list of first-class disciplines.

This year is the closing year of the first round of "double first class" construction. The summary of the construction cycle is not only a hand in to the national "big test", but also an opportunity to review the results, examine the problems and feel for the future. To this end, the school of journalism of Renmin University of China held the 29th in-depth research conference on the afternoon of September 12, 2020, inviting experts and scholars from domestic journalism and communication universities to discuss the construction of "double first class" and the innovation and development of Journalism and communication discipline.
