作者: 时间:2012-05-03

On the morning of April 20, Professor Zheng Baowei, director of the center, was invited to visit the office of the international union of Oxfam stationed in Brussels, during his visit to Belgium for the seminar for “EU - China Partnership for a green world” accompanied by Wang Binbin, the communication manager of Oxfam, Hong Kong and Fu Jing, the chief correspondent from China Daily in Brussels. Celine Charveriat, its policy director, Rhys Coryleicester, a policy consultant on EU issues, as well as Angela, a communication official, met Professor Zheng on behalf of the international union of Oxfam.

Professor Zheng introduced the basic information and achievements of the Project of China Climate Change Communication, on which Oxfam, Hong Kong and the Research Center of Journalism and Social Development (RUC) started the cooperation in April, 2010. He laid emphasis on the two successful international forums on climate change communication, under the strong support of Oxfam, held by the project team, in 2010 in Cancun, Mexico, and 2011 in Durban, South Africa. As Professor Zheng mentioned, the two forums, also supported by the Chinese government, had put up a platform of communication and exchange for government, media and NGOs. Su Wei, a chief negotiation officer from the Chinese delegation took part in the forums, the significance of which were highly praised by him.

Celine Charveriat expressed her gratitude to the support from the research center for the work of Oxfam in the last two years. Celine mentioned that the global mission of Oxfam is to eliminate poverty throughout the world and to promote the development of the Project of China Climate Change Communication to make the issue of climate change understood by government, media, NGOs and other interested parties, mobilizing more forces to cope with climate change, thus to eliminate the negative impact brought by climate change. Since the Project of China Climate Change Communication has overstepped the academic level, gaining social influence positively and comprehensively over the past two years, Oxfam is willing to continue to offer the Project all kinds of international exchange platforms to support a further development of the research work of China’s climate change communication.
